Charlotte’s Ramblings

Hello everyone,

I hope you are doing well. I know that the lockdown is starting to affect us all, if it hasn’t already.

I don’t have a planned post for you this week. I’m sorry. Although, I have been a busy little bee, organising and planning some exciting posts which I have in the pipeline and I am excited to share with them, so please stay tuned!

I just wanted to check in with you all. I am so happy that people actually visit my blog and read what I have to say. It means a lot and I hope you will stick around. I hope this will become a long term and well loved project.

Of course, if you have any ideas or inspiration that you would like me to look into or even collaborate on, please get in touch with me, either in the comments section below or via Instagram (@miss_charlotte_d). Anything relating to nature, wildlife and wellbeing (whether that be mental health of eco-friendly self care) is fantastic.

‘We often forget that we are nature. Nature is not something separate from us. So when we say that we have lost our connection to nature, we’ve lost our connection to ourselves.’

Andy Goldsworthy

To be honest, I’m feeling a little flat today. I’m not fishing for sympathy (I hate that phrase), I just want anyone who reads this, who feels the same way, to know that they are not the odd one out.

With everyone on social media seem to be doing endless exercise from home, basking in sunshine or making the most fabulous banana bread, sometimes it feels a bit isolating when all you want to do is sit and stare into space.

Not that there’s anything wrong with the above (I’ve done all 3, well my mum made the banana bread and it was really delicious!) But I am trying to follow my own advice – GET INTO NATURE! Now I know that this doesn’t cure any health issue, but it really helps to lift my spirits and change your perspective. I know some people who hate the outdoors, and that’s fine (I might not understand, but you be you. Nevertheless, I bet you that you are unknowingly changed by it.

But sometimes doing what you know will help you isn’t easy, as it takes a tremendous effort to do the most simple things. All I can say is small steps, look outside, play some birdsong on Youtube or a really upbeat song. I know it helps me, some days I just have to dig deeper to find my fuel!

I have recently found that tuning in to watch Nick Baker’s Instagram Live so helpful, both in relation to my Natural History knowledge, but also my sanity! I have also been researching eco-friendly/cruelty free/clean beauty and skincare brands, and am really encouraged by the amount there are. So focussing on the ‘little happinesses’ (not a real word I know, but it is in my language!) is sometimes all you need to do.

Anyway, I’ll leave it here for now. I don’t know if that will help anyone, I hope it does – it has helped me.

Stay safe. Let me know anything nature/wildlife inspired or of any eco-friendly brands that you are aware of.

AND HAPPY 100th BIRTHDAY TO SUPERMAN – CAPTAIN TOM MOORE!!

See you next week!

Xx

  1. Hi Charlotte! I really enjoyed reading this. ❤ Thank you for taking the time to write it and for being so sincere with us. I was wondering whether you might be able to do a little post on ecotourism, as many people – myself included – don’t seem to be that well-informed or even aware of this initiative. Might you be able to review your own eco hotel experience in Italia? What would you say qualifies as ‘eco-friendly tourism’ or is it simply an irreconcilable oxymoron? Alas, many of us will still find ourselves having to catch a plane (and I hope we won’t be shamed for doing so), but could you maybe profile a few cool eco-friendly hotels/resorts etc. from abroad/specifically in Europe? I would love that! If you need a hand with this I’d be glad to look up some reputable places that have gotten good reviews from clients. Thank you in advance for weighing up this idea! Don’t worry if you feel it doesn’t fit the blog – that’s fine – we can just chat about this in person (virtually!) instead, of course!! S xx
